Torpid Time (An Ekphrastic poem)

Torpid Time (An Ekphrastic poem)
The sun shone bright upon the cliffs, yet offered no comfort
Unnaturally gleamed the still waters, gone barren had the trees, bustle did the square desert
And the time - an indolent transition from morning to night!
With visions of strange creatures and knowledge of stranger events was repose blight!
A dark shadow upon existence; lives lost and people dropping like houseflies
Ants gorged on the fabric of time, memories lost among moans and sighs
Some have gotten away, for certain I cannot say: For the shrouded beast is still on volley,
Face and form unknown, lingering with cunning, feeding off fear and folly!
