Subbaravu - Teeneeru Vindu

Inception

I went near the window and looked out. What prompted me to go there? I don’t know but I saw a black cat. I hate cats. I tried to drench that cat with some water from the vase. I walked towards the chest of drawers. Instead of reaching for the vase,

Golden Compass

I saw him enter and look in my direction. For a moment I felt, how dare! Then I noticed his soft eyes and a smile at the corner which hadn’t reached his lips. I wished he were the person I was supposed to meet. When I went to Leela Palace to meet my prospective bridegroom, the last thing I expected was a handsome man. My relatives never mentioned his looks. All I learnt from my aunt was that theirs is an extremely

water

Water! As usual, I do not know where to start. Of all things so far, I found water and forests most fascinating. Now the truth is I have never been in a real forest. Nor have I been under a real waterfall. As a child, I would rest on my favourite branch of the guava tree in the back yard and brood for hours together.

[tag] Bones in the closet

When Deepu tagged me, I felt a bit sorry for my blatant begging. Had I not written that comment on her post, she probably wouldn’t have got that idea and then Mouli… I thought it was going to be cake walk. People know nothing about me. None of those who follow my blog (sadly, not many do) know me personally (Mohit knew but now he is busy with his joining formalities at IIFT, Delhi. I can write just about anything. Bathroom singing to walking to office (trying to rather). But then, I decided to write some real stuff. Stuff I identify myself with. And phew! What came out was the mostest dumbest stupidest morosest post in the history of blog kind. Seriously! Who would want to read about my deepest fears?

We the people

Just as we went out of BTP office gate, I noticed a girl standing at the fence trying to throw something into the already dirty pond. I turned around for a better look and saw that it was a red cloth and she threw it into the pond and did some gestures as most people would when they spot idols or calendars or pictures of Gods and Goddesses. Okay! Now I get it. It was some offering to some God or Goddess thanking him/her for his/her grace on her/her family.

acknowledgement: Thanks to my colleague S M, Manoj for the pictures :)

summer timeeeeeee

banana coffee
2 small amruta keli bananas (any two small extremely sweet bananas for that matter)
2 tables spoons cocoa powder (one small Dairy milk chocolate is better)
4 table spoons sugar
1/4 litre milk
1/4 litre water
4 cups vanilla ice cream (small cups - the 10 rupees quality cup size)
6.4 grams Nescafe sunrise premium powder (70% coffee 30% chicory - 100% coffee tastes better maybe!)
4 almonds
4 cashew nuts
2 dry anjeer (figs)

blend all together and put in the fridge.

consume when you feel like :) you may add ice cubes too.

Roti (Learnt in Chikmanglore)
Rice - 1/2 cup (that's right. Rice. Actually, cooked rice)
Make a rice ball by putting the rice in a blender or food processor (Do not add water).
Add 1/4 cup raw rice powder and enough salt.
Knead like you would knead wheat flour for roti.

Make lemon sized balls and roll like you would roll phulka (Use raw rice flour to dust while rolling).

cook on tawa exactly like you would cook phulka.

Serve with raw channa dal chutney (spicy chutney made of channa dal, garlic, tamarind, and red chilis) or with pappu (dal), koora (subji), and/or pulusu (?).

Now that is different :)

Coolers

Keera (salad cucumber) - 1/2 piece
Mint leaves - 8
Peppercorns - 8
Salt - to taste

Roughly chop Mint leaves and Keera. Blend chopped mint leaves, keera, pepper and salt. Add a large cup of curd and blend again adding water. You may want to add cold water. Even otherwise, mint and keera along with curd are super coolers :)

Alice in wonderland

I went to the Em Tech India 2010 held at Hotel ITC Royal Gardenia on Vittal Malya Road. I had no specific agenda. I went there because I held a complimentary pass and a very nice lady wrote me an email saying that she is pleased to have me as one of the "delegates" and had attached the program. The other time I was at such a conference I felt completely lost. Everyone around me was neck deep in technology space and most of them were innovators.

Chitti...

It was social studies that day and Chitti was scared. He learnt 20 questions by heart and went to school. The first question was about Himalayas. He had learnt that question better than the others. But suddenly his memory failed. He wrote the opening paragraph at the start of the page and the last point at the end. He sat there trying to recollect the rest of the nine points. He remembered none. He finished the rest of the questions, submitted and left. The week after, Gupta miss gave out papers. She had given him full five marks for the question. Chitti was bothered. He showed his paper to Gupta miss. She was about to cancel the marks but then said, “I will give you two marks. Thanks for being honest”. Chitti went home proud that day.

Break Even

A: This style will break even in fifty years.

B: No! It will be like this forever.

A: But it has to break even. It cannot continue like this. We must go back at some point in time.

One of my closest friends!

I started this post long ago. But, I did not find words and phrases to put down exactly what was going on in my mind. I did not know if it was because of incomplete thoughts or tiresomeness or my own inadequate language skills. As I come back here again, I run into the same wall. The reason, I realized, is that I was trying to abstract the experience from the person who made it happen.

Bangalore...

We went to meet Usha at her home in IIM, B and before we reached there, Pooja and Ankur wanted to have something at cool joint. I of course had had my lunch and didn’t want to eat. Besides, those days, I never spent money on anything at all apart from barest minimum like tooth brush, paste, dal chawal etc

Kalpana took me to Chamrajpet idly shop and since there was a long waiting line for button idlies, we had bonda soup. It was very good indeed. A few days later,
